In this scenario, if both had a high EQ, they would realize that they would want to do what makes their partner happy as well, in addition to making sure their needs are met. One person will realize that though they want to live in a penthouse, they wouldn’t be happy choosing this option because it would mean that the other person is living somewhere that they don’t totally want to. Instead, the two can come to terms together and discover a better option, like a townhouse in the city, that would be good to make both people happy. It takes a high level of emotional intelligence to understand this distinction and enable yourself to really see the other person.
When you are in a business setting, it’s important to have this ability as well. People can be emotionally disconnected at their workplace, so it’s easier to start competitions and take things personally when they don’t go in your favor. Higher EQ in the work setting enables you to see what’s best for everyone and determine a solution that will keep all parties pleased.
